FULTON COUNTY — Some 35,000 are already registered to vote in Fulton County. Come Tuesday, they have an opportunity to put the pedal to the metal.
Here are some of the key races:
FULTON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY
Amanda Nellis, Real Experience line, v. Michael Poulin, Republican and Conservative lines
Nellis:
- After serving for a decade as an assistant district attorney, Nellis is currently serving as the acting district attorney. She stepped in for Chad Brown, who resigned from the position to be a county court judge earlier this year.
- An independent running on the Real Experience ballot line, Nellis has boasted about the county’s truancy response team created during her tenure in the position. Nellis believes she has more experience than Poulin.
Poulin:
- Poulin currently serves as the city of Johnstown’s attorney and previously served as a public defender for 25 years. He defeated Nellis in a heated primary in June.
- He hopes to be tougher on crime than Nellis.
GLOVERSVILLE CITY COURT JUDGE
Traci DiMezza, Republican and Conservative lines, v. John Clo, Democratic line
DiMezza:
- DiMezza has served as city court judge for ten years.
- She says she steers clear of potential biases. The incumbent judge has picked up the Republican and Conservative lines. In June, she defeated Clo in a primary for those ballot positions.
Clo:
- As well as former prosecutor, city attorney and city court judge, Clo is a U.S. Navy veteran and musician.
- The challenger believes his diverse background equips him for the position. He is on the ballot on the Democratic line.
WATER PROPOSAL IN JOHNSTOWN
- Amid a contentious relationship between the city of Johnstown administration and Waterboard over autonomy, voters can choose to dissolve the latter entity.
- Voters rejected two previous referendums of the like in 2015 and 2020.
Other races:
- Voters can choose between U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Schuylerville and Democrat Matt Castelli in the 21st Congressional District.
- Republican incumbent Robert Smullen of the 118th Assembly District and 49th state Senate district hopeful Mark Walczyk are running unopposed. Assemblyman Matthew Simpson R-Horicon, who represents Northampton, is also running unopposed.
