NORTHAMPTON – A big game road checkpoint in Fulton County recently led to the discovery of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said this week.

The evening checkpoint happened Dec. 9 and focused on hunting violations in an area where illegal hunting activity had previously been reported, officials said.

The environmental conservation officers checked seven vehicles in all and found a loaded firearm in one of them.

The officers “ticketed the individual for possession of the loaded firearm in the vehicle, which is illegal and unsafe,” officials said.

The man now faces a fine of up to $1,000 and/or three months in jail if convicted of the misdemeanor charge, officials said.
