TOWN OF CAROGA — A St. Johnsville man drove an excavator on state land in the town of Caroga and has been ticketed, state Department of Environmental Conservation officials said this week.

The investigation began last week, as an environmental conservation officer alerted forest rangers that an unauthorized vehicle had been at Shaker Mountain Wild Forest at Pine Lake, officials said.

The investigation then found excavator tracks going around a closed gate at the Pine Lake Boat Launch and rangers found the operator, a 50-year-old man, officials wrote in a weekly report. The operator was not identified.

Rangers then issued the operator a ticket for operating a motor vehicle on state land.
