EPHRATAH – A Ephratah woman falsely reported child sexual abuse and has been charged with a misdemeanor, New York State Police said.

Gina L. Emden, 34, of Ephratah, was arrested last week and charged with one count of third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor, police said.

The investigation began Feb. 14 when troopers responded to a home in Ephratah for reports of a dispute. During the investigation, Emden made allegations that an adult known to her was sexually abusing children, police said.

“Following a thorough investigation with the assistance of the Fulton County Child Protective Services, no indication of abuse was identified,” police said in a release. “It was determined that (the) Emden allegations were knowingly baseless, and she later attempted to withdraw the report.”

Emden was processed and released to appear in court later.
