BROADALBIN –Broadalbin-Perth High School and Siena College product Matt Gage was called up to the major leagues Tuesday by the world champion Houston Astros.

The Astros recalled Gage, a lefthanded reliever, from Triple-A Sugar Land while also placing righthander Luis Garcia on the 15-day injured list.

Gage was released by the Blue Jays this past offseason and claimed off waivers by the Astros in February. He was optioned to Triple-A in March, and had a 5.00 ERA over nine innings in eight appearances for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys prior to Tuesday’s call-up.

“It’s kind of coming full-circle,” Gage said in a video interview posted to Twitter by Houston’s SportsTalk 790. “It’s a lot of fun whenever you get a phone call like that, no matter what year it is, what organization it’s with. It’s a blessing to be even chosen and considered.”

Gage joined the Astros for Tuesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
