SCHENECTADY — A woman was found with fatal gunshot wounds in an apartment in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood of Schenectady Monday, city police reported.

Police found her while responding for a welfare check at 11:11 a.m. She died at 953 Crane St. shortly afterward.

Schenectady investigators are looking for a suspect. It remains unknown if the incident involved a break-in, according to Lt. Ryan Macherone.

The victim’s identity has been withheld and it’s unclear whether or not she was a resident of the upper-floor apartment. She is believed to be in her 30s.

Officers are waiting to hear from the victim’s next of kin.

“The investigation is ongoing at this time,” Macherone said. “I don’t believe you had any indication that there’s any further danger to the public.”

Police are looking for potential video footage from neighborhood businesses.
