GLENS FALLS — Zach Eldred’s grand slam highlighted a six-run eighth inning that punctuated the Amsterdam Mohawks’ 8-2 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League victory over the Glens Falls Dragons on Friday night at East Field.
Up 2-0 heading into the eighth inning, the Mohawks (2-0) loaded the bases with nobody out before Eldred blew the game open with his grand slam off Patrick Reilly.
Following a Gage Miller walk, the Dragons (0-1) made a pitching change and brought in Billy Canale, who was greeted by a two-run homer from Luke Longo.
Amsterdam led wire-to-wire, taking a 2-0 lead on back-to-back RBI singles by Dakota Duffalo and Bryce Hubbard in the top of the first inning.
Glens Falls scratched across two runs in the eighth inning, but four Mohawks pitchers — Dylan Reid, Von Baker, Colin Maloney and Maximilian Ramirez — combined to scatter six hits and racked up 16 strikeouts.
The Mohawks will be back at home in Amsterdam on Saturday to host the Saugerties Stallions. First pitch at Shuttleworth Park is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
