Fonda-Fultonville’s Bennett Melita earned both an individual and realy win Friday during the second day of the Section 2 track and field state qualifying meet at Shenendehowa High School.
Melita won the Division 2 boys’ 3,000-meter steeplechase in nine minutes, 58.2 seconds, and teamed with Exavier Garcia, Ty Sanges and Jonah Bluvas to win the 3,200 relay in 8:14.48.
Broadalbin-Perth won the boys’ Division 2 1,600 relay, with the quartet of Sam Hotaling, Dean Smith, Connor Couperus and Rylee VanAlstine crossing the finish line in 3:28.40.
In Division 2 girls’ competition, Gloversville’s Zoie Tesi recorded two second-place finishes in field events.
Tesi was the runner-up in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3 inches, and was second in the long jump with a mark of 16-10. She also finished third in the triple jump with a best mark of 36-2.5.
Fonda-Fultonville’s Amelia Petersen also recorded a second-place finish, finishing the 100 hurdles in 16.33 seconds.
