JOHNSTOWN — The Greater Johnstown School District has hired a transportation director with first-hand experience in the bus industry.
Julia Barringer joins the district administration to oversee its transportation department after she previously worked at the Schenectady-based Brown Transportation firm, where she served four years as terminal manager after beginning her stint with the company as a dispatcher.
Barringer will handle the logistics of bus routes and schedules for the district in her new role.
“Mrs. Barringer is joining our District at a critical time, as we have come to understand the importance for the District to have control of routing, responsibility for overall communication, and leadership in planning and implementation,” Johnstown Superintendent Dr. William Crankshaw noted in a statement.
A graduate of Canajoharie High School and Fulton-Montgomery Community College, Barringer has been selected following a recommendation from the district’s Shared Decision Making ad hoc committee on transportation.
“It was the committee’s recommendation that hiring a transportation director who could exclusively serve the needs of our students, would be in the district’s best interest,” explained Alicia Koster, the district’s assistant superintendent and committee facilitator, in a statement. “Mrs. Barringer’s experience in the transportation industry will be invaluable to the District as we look to greatly improve transportation services over the next few years.”
