AMSTERDAM — A city man was arrested by city police Thursday, accused of intending to sell heroin and cocaine and possessing a handgun.
Police said Ernesto M. Esteva, 39, of 20 Kline St., faces felony counts of: third-degree criminal possession of controlled substance with intent to sell – heroin; third-degree criminal possession of controlled substance with intent to sell – cocaine; and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
A news release indicated the Amsterdam Police Department on Thursday received a report of an individual with a handgun in the area of East Main and Kline streets. Police said officers responded to the vehicle described, initiating a traffic stop near Liberty Street.
Police said that after interviewing driver Esteva, officers obtained a search warrant for his residence and the vehicle issued by City Court Judge Lisa Lorman. The search yielded quantities of heroin and cocaine, a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun, and a large sum of cash, police said.
Assisting the investigation were members of the state police’s Community Narcotics Enforcement Team and Montgomery County District Attorney Kelli McCoski.
