Motorcylist dies following accident
CHARLTON — A 50-year-old Galway motorcyclist died in the hospital following an accident Friday in the town, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A news release issued Saturday said a truck/motorcycle motor vehicle crash occurred at 1:26 p.m. Friday on Route 67 at Old State Route 67.
The release said an investigation into the collision showed a 2000 Dodge pickup truck operated by Kevin M. Delaney, 22, of Ballston Spa was eastbound on Route 67 when it made a left turn onto Old State Route 67. While making the turn, it was struck by a 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by a 50-year-old Galway man who was also traveling eastbound on Route 67.
The motorcyclist’s name was not being released as of this morning.
Deputies said a preliminary investigation showed the motorcycle was in the opposite lane of travel when the collision occurred.
Delaney was uninjured, but was later cited for operating a motor vehicle while having a suspended driver’s license.
The release said the motorist initially suffered a fractured leg and was transported to Albany Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of his injuries. He experienced a medical “event” there and was subsequently pronounced dead, the release said. Authorities are not saying what extent if any the collision played in the man’s death.
The sheriff’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the case. The sheriff’s office was assisted on scene by Galway EMS, Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Charlton Fire Department, Harmony Corners Fire Department, and West Charlton Fire Department.
