Broadalbin-Perth - Amsterdam baseball 4/29/24

The Broadalbin-Perth baseball team celebrates after picking up a 16-5 win over Amsterdam on April 29.

The Broadalbin-Perth baseball team came prepared on Monday in a Foothills Council contest against Amsterdam, as the Patriots put up 16 runs in a win against the Rams.

In what was Broadalbin-Perth’s strongest offensive performance of the season, head coach RJ Pingitore is hoping there will be much more to come.

“We’ve been carried by our pitching staff early in the season so far, squeaking out close games,” Pingitore said. “Our guys made some really good adjustments today against a really good arm. We were able to get to him early and barrel up some balls.”

Broadalbin-Perth, which is 6-5 overall, picked up 18 hits, including seven for extra bases. Garrett Jackowski collected four hits, with a triple, and Alex Rogers hit a home run.

“It was nice to see everyone getting good pieces throughout the game, 1 through 15 actually, everyone was throughout the entire game,” Jackowski said.

Overall, nine different Patriots were able to register a hit.

“It starts with our starting guys really getting a good cushion for them, and other guys being able to get opportunities,” Jackowski said. “Everyone on the team works hard all year, and they all deserve to get their opportunities like they got today.”

While Broadalbin-Perth came out to a 15-0 lead, Amsterdam came alive in the fifth inning. However, Pingitore left starting pitcher Bradley Savoie in the game, allowing him to work in and out of trouble.

“We’re at the point in the season right now where we need to be stretching our guys out and getting ready for a postseason run,” Pingitore said. “No matter the score, you really have to make sure those guys are getting their work. Most importantly, working their way through that situation like it’s a 0-0 baseball game.”

Although the Patriots still had a big cushion, Pingitore was still on the edge of his seat.

“They scored five, and the game slowly became them being one hit from being back in it,” Pingitore said.

In the end, with Broadalbin-Perth cruising to a 16-5 win, it is hoping to keep the bats rolling.

“This is a really good game to hopefully build off of, and try to keep the bats going all the way through sectionals,” Jackowski said. “It just sets the tone for how good we really are as a team.”
