Sweets celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

JOHNSTOWN?- Clarence and Theressa Sweet of Johnstown celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 23 at a dinner party hosted by their daughter Sandra Feisinger and her husband, Gerry Feisinger, at the Holiday Inn.

The Rev. Ronald Matulewicz gave the invocation.

On June 22, the 4 p.m. Mass at the Auriesville Shrine was in honor of the Sweets.

They were married June 20, 1953, at St. Anthony’s Church by the late Rev. Andrew B. Cekovsky. Those who attended the wedding and the anniversary dinner were Mary Ann Brennan Stock, Marguerite Valachovic Slusher and Marie Zilka Wojeski.

Guests attended from Gloversville and Johnstown as well as from Saratoga County and Midlothian, Va.

The members of the wedding party who are now deceased are Joyce Longfritz, Marion Benkovic Pochily, John and Dick Dupree, Roland Karpoy, John Hlozansky and Bill Houtz.

Sweet was the water meter reader for 40 years for the city of Johnstown and retired in 1989. He has enjoyed bow hunting, playing golf, hiking and walking, which he still does.

The former Theressa Zilka was an office manager at the Johnstown YMCA for 26 years and retired in 1990. She enjoys reading, doing arts and crafts, playing golf and shopping.

After retiring, for 18 years they spent every March on Hutchinson Island, Fla. Now they enjoy traveling, eating out and vacationing in Cape Cod, Mass.
