MAYFIELD – The Bannertown 50 Plus Club met Feb. 20, for the Office for the Aging luncheon and meeting. Devotions were led by Patrick Keane. His reading, “Depend on the Lord,” was followed by “The Lord’s Prayer.” The meeting was opened by President Carl Edwards with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Vice President Linda LaVada called the roll: 21 were in attendance. She welcomed two visitors, Inky Valik and Irene White.
Sherin Akey gave the sunshine report, saying she had sent a birthday card.
The reports of the secretary and treasurer were accepted as given.
Joan Bezio announced Joan Himes had given the club $50 in memory of her husband, Ed Himes. Bezio also reported 39 had signed for the trip to Savannah. A few more people can be accommodated. Also being offered is a murder mystery dinner and show at the Perthshire on March 26.
Lorrie Valk will accept money at the next meeting for tickets to the Mayfield Central School Drama Department presentation of “Grease.” She will purchase the tickets and make reservations for those who want to attend.
Edwards read a letter from a third-grader thanking the group for the dictionaries. He mentioned the Thursday OFA meeting for Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage and the need to call for an appointment.
At the Sunday meeting, the club will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Participants should wear something green and bring something green wrapped in green for an auction. The cookie committee will be Joan Himes and Evie Leach.
The birthdays were celebrated with cupcakes and ice cream. Joyce Frisch won the birthday prize. After adjournment, drawings were held. The winners were Inky Valik, the door prize; Frisch the 50-50; and Nila Edwards, $1. Tom Armstrong gave a presentation about the People to People trip to England and Scotland. His commentary was accompanied by pictures. Bingo was played.
