Bridge club names winners
JOHNSTOWN – The Adirondack Bridge Club played the Mitchell Movement on Monday at the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center, 109 E. Main St.
The north-south winners were: first place, Carol Brookins and Arlene Comstock; second place, Chloe Correll and Jean Loveday; third place, Doris McIntosh and Mary Jane Fredericks.
The east-west winners were: first place, Mary Brusoe and Ann Masala; second place, Eleanor Clark and Angie Parillo; third place, Carlene Lankton and Poppy Kiernan.
Broadalbin seniors slate annual picnic
BROADALBIN -The Broadalbin Senior Citizens met June 15 for a meeting and the Office for the Aging luncheon. There were 52 present including two guests, Linda Porter and Mary Zayicek.
Mary Peck, chaplain, read an article about spring. She led in reciting “The Lord’s Prayer.”
Vice President June Zea led in the Pledge of Allegiance and read the roll call.
President Toni Hallenbeck presided over the meeting.
The reports of Nancy Weiss, secretary, and Phil Guadagno, treasurer, were read and accepted.
Sunshine: Charlotte Santo noted two members on the sick list.
The birthdays for this month were read. “Happy Birthday” was sung by all.
Program: Donna Chambers gave the report.
Aug. 10 will be the annual unbirthday party, which celebrates everyone’s birthday. Everyone should bring an unwrapped new $10 gift (no clothing). It will also be a make-your-own-sundae day.
For the July 13 picnic, everyone should bring two or three article that are in good shape for a penny sale (no clothing).
Santo, Christmas party chairman, noted it will be Dec. 8 at the Raindancer. More details later.
Trips: Hallenbeck noted the June 7 trip to New York City went well. She brought back videos of it for members to look at. She also noted the Mystic, Conn., trip is set to go.
Chambers will have the $8 tickets to sell for the OFA Aug. 4 picnic at the Concordia Club in July. Ruth Lee made the flag for the group.
The raffle winner was Mary Ann Griffith.
Cleanup: Refreshment committee consisted of Eleanor Merritt, Carm Repka and Janet Glenn.
The program for the day was a tribute to members’ fathers, grandfathers, etc. Those who wanted to do so spoke about what that person said or did that has been remembered all these years. Names were drawn from the participants for two gift certificates. The winners were Betty Cuckoo and Phil Guadagno.
The refreshments were served by Chambers and Santo, who served punch. The cookies and cupcakes were made and donated by Pat Ottati, Norma Stellato and Santo.
Chambers read an article, “Dads.”
The normally scheduled meeting of Wednesday will not be held due to some members being on the Maine trip.
The next get-together will be July 13 for the picnic.
Office for Aging lists meals, sites
JOHNSTOWN – The Fulton County Office for the Aging Nutrition Program meal sites are open to anyone 60 or older or their spouse regardless of age. The suggested contribution per meal is $3 and the guest charge for those not age 60 is $5. It is not necessary to be a member of a senior center or senior club to attend any site. Some sites are open all week and others are on a rotating schedule.
Meal sites: The Forest Hill Towers, the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center, Mayfield Town Hall, Broadalbin Presbyterian Church, Petoff Garden Apartments, Perth Senior Community Center, the Petoff Garden Apartments and the Northville Red Rooster Cafe.

Senior group reports on meeting
GLEN – The regular Tuesday weekly meeting of the Glen-Mohawk Seniors was called to order by President Beverly Guiffre, followed by the morning prayer given by Allen Taylor and the Pledge of Allegiance. “My County ‘Tis of Thee” was sung with Barbara Furman at the piano.
The roll call was taken by Vice President Alan Buck, which showed 33 members present.
Bill Smith from Framers Insurance discussed insurance coverage and gave examples of which part of a policy covers what, a news release said.
The secretary’s reports from June 7 and 14, were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given by Olive Taylor and will be filed for audit.
Betsy Saltsman, corresponding secretary, passed four cards for ailing members. She told the group about a coloring class she attended given by HealthLink.
Furman wrote a note saying she will no longer be the liaison for Glen-Mohawk Seniors to the Office for the Aging, a news release said.
Trip Committee: Olive Taylor, co-chairwoman, read the names of the people attending this week’s trip to the MacHyden Theatre. For the Glen-Mohawk Seniors July 12 picnic, the cost is $2 for members and $6 for non-members, for half barbecue chicken with baked beans, pasta salad, baked potato, watermelon, Jell-O, soda and water. The barbecue chicken will be done by Ron Hinkle and the Mohawk Town Fire Department. There will be snacks beforehand. Sign up with the trip committee.
Alan Buck asked if anyone would be interested in a drivers safety course and passed a signup sheet for suggested dates.
Saltsman gave a report on last week’s luncheon given by table number five and said a small amount was given to the treasury.
There were a couple of humorous readings from Joe Mancini.
The 50-25-25 was won by Lucille Douglas and Marlene Augustine.
The meeting adjourned. The meeting was brought to a close with an ending prayer given by Allen Taylor.

Johnstown club plans dinner
JOHNSTOWN – The following is for the Johnstown 50 Plus Club, housed at the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center, 109 E. Main St.
For the Thursday covered dish, guests are encouraged to bring a slightly larger dish to pass and own place setting. The center provides the meat and the 50 Plus Club will host the dinner and offer chances to win the 50-25-25.

Caroga club slates mystery trip
CAROGA – The Nick Stoner Senior Citizens Club had its meeting Tuesday.
The prayer was led by Barbara Brenton and followed with the Serenity Prayer.
Grace Bevington Eglin read an inspirational reading, Friendship holds the world together – glad we are all frends.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Eglin.
Hello neighbor took place, a news release said.
The guest speaker was Erica Beck from the Office for the Aging, who discussed Medicare minutes, Medicare savings program, Extra help program, Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage program, insurance to help out with the doughnut hole, Medicare part A and B and answered questions. It was asked if they could use volunteers; answer was yes and to call 736-5650.
Mary “Kitty” Riznyk read the secretary’s report from May 18, and June 7, which was accepted as read.
Shirley Holliday gave the treasurer’s report.
Jean Griffin gave the hospitality and refreshment report.
The refreshment committee volunteers for the July 5 meeting are Dottie Richardson, Alice Loux, Janice McLaughlin and Holliday.
Barbara MacFee gave the sunshine report.
Holliday also gave the membership report.
McLaughlin gave the pen pal report: A teacher sent pictures to McLaughlin; some of the student pen pals did not show up. An update will be at the end of August.
Trip report: For the Aug. 9 mystery trip, the $50 per person includes a choice of entree and bus drivers tip. Attendees will depart Johnstown McDonald’s at 5:30 a.m. and Caroga Town Hall at 6 a.m. The reservations need to be in by Aug. 2 by contacting Eglin at 762-2537.
Committee reports: Jean Griffin, chairwoman of the picnic; Holliday is the chairwoman for the 80 plus party; and Riznyk is the chairwoman of the anniversary party. The Christmas party will be brought back up in September.
Old business: Several members brought in their wedding and/or baby photos to see if the group could identify them. The American Association of Retired Persons class has been cancelled. If anyone is still interested in this course, Nathan Littauer’s HealthLink offers them monthly; call 736-1120. A wheelchair will be purchased for a second donation to Mountain Valley Hospice from a donation by Robert and Lorraine Bleyl. The balance of wheelchair and plaque will come from the club treasury. The Pine Lake picnic has been cancelled. The OFA Picnic is Aug. 4 at the Concordia Club.
New business: For the OFA picnic, all clubs are to make a flag for the ceremonies; Nick Stoner needs to make a golfing flag. The Fulton County Senior Council meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at Johnstown Senior Center with Oppenheim seniors providing the refreshments at 9:30 a.m.
The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. July 5.
The meeting attendance was 22 members and two guests.

The prize raffle winners were Marion Snell, Riznyk, Eglin and Rosemarie Rossbach.
Refreshments were served.

Perth club plans lake trip
PERTH – The Perth Senior Citizens meeting was held Wednesday with 30 people attending.
A Father’s Day celebration with pizza took place.
The 50-50 raffle was won by Betty Zurawicki.
President Grace Eglin led in “The Lord’s Prayer” and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Maureen Phillips, secretary, read the minutes. Mary Stachnik gave the treasurer’s report and was accepted as read. Eglin gave kitchen report.
Nadine Werner, trip chairwoman, reported for the July 28 Lake George trip, the bus leaves the senior center at at 10 a.m. – be at the center at 9:30 a.m. The cutoff for the $36 per person payment is July 20. Contact Werner at 883-1141 or Eglin at 762-2537.

Task Force hosts special speaker
NORTHVILLE – The Sacandaga Task Force for Senior Living has a program each week at the Red Rooster Cafe (Pink Chicken), corner of Bridge and Main streets.
On Thursday the Red Rooster Cafe will present Del Salmon, elder law attorney, who will discuss wills, trusts and power of attorney.
Chair yoga, taught by Ony Antonucci, will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. each Thursday. The cost of classes is $5 per week or six sessions for $25. Those interested can join in anytime; call 863-2168.
The blood pressure clinics are the fourth Thursday each month by Home Health Care Partners. Also card and board games will follow the scheduled presentation on the fourth Thursday each month.
The weekly congregate meal is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Those participating can attend the Red Rooster programs without attending the meal or bring a bag lunch.
People who want the Office for the Aging meal can call OFA at 736-5650 to make lunch reservations; if unable to attend the luncheon, call OFA to cancel the meal. If the OFA meal site is closed, there will be no program at the Red Rooster Cafe that day.
STFSL has the following bus trip planned.
July 19, the bus will be traveling from Northville to Animal Land.

– The center is starting a question and answer column, “Dear Grammie,” in the monthly calendars. All questions can be handwritten or submitted to the center’s e-mail address: [email protected]. Choose the topics and subjects of questions for the readers to respond. Positive and encouraging creative answers will be listed in the next month’s calendar. All questions and answers must be submitted to the center by the third Friday of the month.
– There are new clubs the senior center has started which all will begin at 10 a.m. The signup are being taken and the start-up dates will be in July. Clubs: Chinese checkers Club on the second and fourth Tuesday; Book Club the fourth Monday; Coupon Club on the first Monday; and Baking Club on the first and third Tuesday.

Johnstown center slates luncheon
JOHNSTOWN – The following are announcements for the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center, 109 E. Main St.
The center staff is hosting a bocce’s organizational luncheon at 11:30 a.m. July 5. Anyone interested in playing should come to the lunch as teams will be formed to play after lunch.
A representative from Blue Shield Insurance will be in the building from 10 a.m. to noon July 6, to answer questions insurance holders have.
On July 13, the lunch crew will meet at noon at the Hales Mills Golf Club. The lunch is open to anyone and guests should call the business office at 762-4643 to make reservations.
