Eleanor H. Cunniff

Eleanor H. Cunniff, 98, formerly of Tribes Hill, N.Y., and Division Street, Amsterdam, N.Y., passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.

Born in Johnstown, N.Y., on February 13, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Richard V. and Mary Lyons Bowen.

Eleanor received her education in the Johnstown school system and was a graduate of Johnstown High School.

Eleanor was a homemaker and also worked as a bookkeeper for her husband, Martin’s business in Tribes Hill. She also enjoyed reading, painting and crocheting.

Eleanor was a parishioner and communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill, and a member of the Tribes Hill Seniors.

Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Martin R. Cunniff in 1985; an infant son, Martin Cunniff; and a daughter, Marilyn Phillips.

She is survived by her son, Richard Cunniff of Lexington, Kentucky; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a cousin-in-law, Linda Vosteen of Johnstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Members of the Iroquois Senior Citizens are asked to meet at the Riley Mortuary at 10 a.m.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, N.Y. followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial, which will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 111 Third Avenue, Tribes Hill, N.Y.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, N.Y.

Friends are invited to call at the Riley Mortuary from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
