Janet Lee Johnson

Janet Lee (Montanye) Johnson, age 74, of Harwich, MA, was surrounded by her immediate and extended family when she passed away on January 16, 2013, in Boston, MA, from complications due to heart surgery.

Janet was born on July 12, 1938, in Gloversville, NY, the daughter of Arthur R. Montanye and Vera Manzer Montanye. After graduating from Mayfield High School in Mayfield, NY, Janet attended the Albany Medical Center School of Nursing, where she earned her nursing degree. Janet became a registered nurse and began her career as a recovery room nurse at New England Medical Center in Boston, MA. Over the years Janet worked in many medical settings in the Boston area. After raising her three children and returning to work, she found her passion in geriatric nursing. An extraordinarily caring and compassionate person, Janet greatly enjoyed her nursing home patients whose life stories she never tired of hearing.

On February 22, 2005, Janet married the love of her life, Carl H. Johnson of Harwich. Together Janet and Carl enjoyed traveling to St. Maarten, where they vacationed several weeks each winter, adding many friends to their large network of close friendships with those both far and near. In addition to dining out with her husband and their cherished family and friends, Janet pursued many hobbies and activities. Janet was devoted to her children and grandchildren, for whom she enjoyed sewing clothing and Halloween costumes. Janet’s children were always at the center of her world. She enjoyed attending their various sporting and school events, planning outings, parties, and weddings for them and always had a ready ear for their joys and sorrows. Many of Janet’s summer days were enjoyed sunning herself on Red River Beach while watching her children play for hours in the water. Janet was devoted to her sisters and brother and her large extended family and dozens of friends who will dearly miss her special warmth and caring.

Janet’s survivors include her husband, Carl H. Johnson of Harwich, her daughter Ingrid Judge Stressenger and her husband William Stressenger of Cape Elizabeth, ME, son Geoffrey A.
