Mary S. Goot, 96, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Goot was born on December 4, 1916, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Michael Stanko and Helen Roman Stanko.
Mary worked for many years as a glovemaker at the George Johns Glove Company in Johnstown. She was of the Catholic faith, a longtime communicant of the former St. Patrick’s Church and current Holy Trinity Parish. She also was a member of the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Service Center.
On November 13, 1937, she was united in marriage to Matthew M. Goot Sr., who passed away on August 31, 2010.
Mrs. Goot is survived by one son, Matthew Michael (Debbie) Goot Jr. of El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain; six grandchildren Michael Goot, Douglas Goot, Sandra Gilchrist, Edward Johnson, Eric and David Johnson; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Kathryn Quackenbush of Fonda; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one daughter, Evelyn Ann Johnson; and three sisters and two brothers.
Friends and family may call on Mary’s family from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 18, at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.
A Mass of Christian burial at Holy Trinity Church, Johnstown, with interment following at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Johnstown, will be held in spring.
