Michael A. Black, 52, died suddenly, January 11, 2013, from natural causes. Born and raised in Schenectady County, he was a 1978 Scotia-Glenville H.S. graduate. He served in the U.S. Air Force prior to beginning a career with NYDCS. Mike worked as a correctional officer since 1982, serving at Fishkill, Bedford Hills in Coxsackie and, since 1990, in Hale Creek in Johnstown. He was an avid sportsman, and he enjoyed hiking and trips to Cape Cod. He recently became engaged to the “love of his life,” Teresa Bottari of S. Glens Falls. Mike is remembered for his generous nature, extreme recollection of the words to any song, and the love he shared, however brief, with Tre’s nephews, Tyler and Brandon Morgan, with whom he had looked forward to spending time. Mike was an avid photographer. His presence will surely be missed.
He is survived by: his mom, Marion Black of Saratoga Springs; a sister, Laura M. Kelly (husband, John) of Poestenkill; fiancee, Teresa Bottari of S. Glens Falls; special nephews, Tyler and Brandon Morgan; and a large circle of cherished “best” friends, including Jennifer and Jeff Nichols of Galway, N.Y., and Mike Winney.
Relatives and friends may call at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Scotia Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be Wednesday January 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Glenville Funeral Home.
