Frederick H. Miller, 57, passed away on Feb. 1, 2013, at home surrounded by his family following a battle with cancer.
He was born in Rutland, Vt. on May 17, 1955, the son of Iris and Francis S. Miller Jr.
He attended Springfield, Vt. schools and graduated from Community College of Vermont in 1997.
Fred worked at various shops in the Springfield area, lastly at Fellow’s Gear Shaper. He then moved to Rutland, where he worked at General Electric and then at Bruno Land Surveyors in Woodstock, where he saw some of the last untouched Vermont land. He retired in 2010 from Fulton County, N.Y. department of buildings and grounds and returned to his beloved Vermont.
Fred was a member of the United Church of Benson serving as a trustee.
He was predeceased by his father; an infant sister, Hope; a brother, Paul; grandparents; and niece, Heidi.
He is survived by: his wife, Betsy of Benson, Vermont; two children, Emily and her husband, Christopher Golding of Chesapeake, Va. and Matthew Miller of Johnstown, N.Y.; his mother, brother, Frank and his wife, Linda of Jericho, Vt.; two nephews, Eric and Nathaniel Miller; great-nephew, Montana; his aunts, Thelma Hemple of Pittsford, Helga Maguire of Springfield, Vt.; uncle, Chester Oscarson of Florida; and cousins.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Fred’s life will be held at United Church of Benson on Tuesday, Feb. 5. The Reverend Holly Ross Noble will preside. There will be a visiting time before the service from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the church, the service at 11:30 a.m. and a celebration requested by Fred, will be held at the family home following the service.
His family would like to thank Dr. Stall and Diana at Castleton Family Health Center and the staff at Foley Cancer Center and Hospice for his care.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Fred may be given to the United Church of Benson, P.O. Box 186, Benson, VT 05731, The American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
