Martha F. Young

Martha F. “Marty” Young, 67, of Gloversville, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady on February 8, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Warren Richards Furbeck and Elizabeth “Betty” Burtch, born in Fonda, N.Y., on August 2, 1945.

A lifetime resident of the area, she was a graduate of Gloversville High School. She attended Duchess County Community College and then Fulton-Montgomery Community College, where she earned her Registered Nursing Degree. She worked for over twenty years at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. She also worked for some time for the Fulton County Nursing Service.

Marty is a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gloversville and Broadalbin. She enjoyed boating and was a member of the Mayfield Yacht Club, skiing, golfing playing cards and traveling.

Most recently, upon her retirement in September of 2011, she and her husband, Terry, took a trip to Europe. She always kept busy and cared deeply for others. Most of all, her biggest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family and friends.

Her loving family includes her husband, Terrance L. Young, whom she wed October 11, 2001; son, Randall “Randy” Van Brocklin (Patricia) of Broadalbin; daughters, Heidi Van Brocklin Deacon (Kevin) of Phoenix, Ariz., Kristina Vlossak (James) of Belvidere, N.J., Elizabeth Barth (Daniel) of Gloversville; along with stepchildren, Anthony P. Christiano (Ann) of Charlotte, N.C., Michele L. Cozzolino of Dade City, Fla. and Amy L. Welker (Ivan) of Zurich, Switzerland. She is also survived by a sister, Susan Crowther of Hagaman; ten grandchildren; and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Marty was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Brownell Van Brocklin.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday evening, February 12, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Bonnie Orth will officiate. A private burial will take place in the spring at the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery.
