Richard L. Lorey, 90, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, February 24, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 16, 1922, in Gloversville, he was the son of the late John and Ruth (Robbins) Lorey.
Mr. Lorey attended Gloversville High School. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, spending time on the USS Miami. He was overseas for nearly fourteen months and was honorably discharged in 1945.
Richard was a foreman for over 20 years at the former Continental Mills in Gloversville and had also worked for the former Coleco Company, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church, Gloversville. He was a life member of the Mayfield Servicemen’s Club, the Marine Corps League, the Pine Tree Rifle Club and the National Rifle Association.
In his younger years, Richard enjoyed hunting and all of his adult life he was an expert target shooter. He enjoyed spending time with this family and friends, including special friends Norm and Doris Clo.
Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Davison Lorey; and one sister, Annie Smullens.
Mr. Lorey is survived by: his wife of 30 years, Mrs. Beverly Weir Wagar Lorey; two children, Sharon Brower of Mayfield and Thomas (Shirley) Lorey of Gloversville; stepchildren, Mark (Kelly) Wagar of Mayfield, Paul (Patricia) Wagar of Johnstown, Linda (David Renda) Wagar of Gloversville and Robin Ducharme of Gloversville; ten grandchildren, Jill Kaczor, Jane Brower, Todd Brower, Christopher Lorey, Ryan Lorey, Matthew Wagar, Jonathan Wagar, Virginia Kline, Nicole McElwain and Zachary Hall; great-grandchildren, Lauryn Kaczor, Connyr Lorey, Sierra Brower, Samuel Kline, Lucy Kline, Maggie Kline, Eden Cole and Mitchel McElwain; and one niece, Bonnie Morrison survives.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in the spring at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield with full military honors followed by a celebration of Richard’s life.
