Angela Olga DiLorenzo, 98, a lifelong resident of Gloversville, passed away of natural causes, on Monday, March 4, 201, at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, N.Y.
Angela was born on October 2, 1914, in Gloversville, she was one of 14 children of the late Joseph and Mary Persico. Angela attended school in Gloversville before helping out with her family’s general store, also in Gloversville. She was married to her late husband, Bennie DiLorenzo, on June 14, 1936, and enjoyed 68 happy years together prior to his passing in 2004. In addition to serving as a homemaker and raising three children, she worked at the former glovemaker, Daniel Hays & Co. of Gloversville. A sampling of her work is on display at the Fulton County Museum in Gloversville.
A longtime active member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Gloversville, she was heavily involved in the church’s annual festival, and was a regular member of the church chorus, in addition to being a member of the church’s Women’s Catholic Society. She loved to spend her free time with her large extended family, which brought her great joy throughout her entire life. One of her true great joys was serving as a seamstress, making and altering clothing for her family, especially her children who were often cited as the “best dressed” in school. She also loved cooking classic Italian food, knitting, playing card games and crossword puzzles. She was also an avid bingo player right up until her final days.
Angela is survived by: her children, Donald (Angela) DiLorenzo of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Joan Salustri (Valentino) of Altamont, N.Y., and Angela Stover (Michael) of Gloversville, N.Y.; also her 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Scafariello of Gloversville, N.Y. She was predeceased by brothers, Thomas Persico, Louie Persico, Victor Persico, Albert Persico, Arthur Persico, Armand Persico, Charles (Pasquale) Persico, Joseph Persico, and Rudy Persico; and sisters, Anna Nazic, Grace Carangelo, and Katie DiCaprio.
Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the Amico Funeral Home in Gloversville, N.Y. A prayer service will be held Thursday, March 7, at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville, N.Y. Burial will take place in the spring at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown, N.Y. Memorial gifts may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association and the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
