Mr. Charles J. Curthoys, 78, of Gloversville, passed away on Sunday morning, March 10, 2013, at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.
Born on September 4, 1934, in Troy, he was the son of the late James and Anna Mae (Peters) Curthoys.
Charles was educated at LaSalle Institute in Troy and graduated from Siena College with a degree in economics and accounting. Following his graduation from Siena, he served his country in the U.S. Army and spent five years in the New York Army National Guard, honorably discharged with the rank of first lieutenant.
Mr. Curthoys was employed as an office supervisor for Niagara Mohawk Corp. in Canajoharie and Gloversville and also was clerk of the Water Board for the Gloversville Water Department. He retired as office manager for Spalding Corporation of Gloversville.
Charles was president of the Canajoharie Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the Gloversville Planning Board and the Water Department.
He was of Roman Catholic faith and a communicant of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville.
Mr. Curthoys is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Priscilla Parker Curthoys of Gloversville, formerly of New York City; one son, Michael (Laura) Curthoys of Clifton Park; two daughters, Jennifer (David) Connolly of Gloversville, and Susan (Stephen) Burbage and their children, Catie, Cole and Liam of Wayland, Mass.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow immediately at 7 p.m., with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. Private entombment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
