Frank A. Sleezer, 88, of Gloversville, passed away at his residence March 16, 2013. Mr. Sleezer was born July 31, 1924, in Gloversville, son of the late Harry and Irene Meyers Sleezer. He was educated in Gloversville schools and served in the Army from 1943-1946 with the 398th Field Artillery Battalion, serving for a time in the Rhineland, Central Europe.
Earlier in life, Frank enjoyed hunting as a hobby. His work career began at the former Gloversville Knitting Co. For many years he was a leather worker at both Wood & Hyde and G. Levor Company, and Frank was lastly employed in the custodial department of NBT Bank where he proudly received the much deserved Employee of the Year Award in the late 1980s. In his leisure time, Frank would enjoy Eddie Arnold music and was a devoted John Wayne fan, watching countless movies several times. Although he preferred a quiet solitude, Frank’s gentle kindness and humility will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his children: Sandra Jean Sleezer Girard (August) of Stone Ridge, N.Y.; Miss Carol Ann Sleezer of Gloversville, and step-son, Richard Jacobs of Apple Creek, Ohio. Frank is also survived by his sister, Florence M. Sandner of Gloversville; two grandchildren; David Girard and Emily Gregory (Tony); four great grandchildren: Landon Gregory, Leah Gregory, Stellablue Girard and Raven Girard. Additional survivors include his niece Donna Rulison (Todd) of Johnstown and cousins Laura Joan Adams of Scotia, Beatrice Ellington of Beacon Falls, CT, and his three cherished feline friends; Abbe, Peaches and Cally. Frank was pre-deceased by Alma Jean Brooks Sleezer, Margaret Horr Sleezer, and brother, Lloyd Sleezer.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Wednesday March 20, 2013 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville with Reverend George Hopper officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial with military honors, will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville at 2 pm.
