Shirley A. Dufel

Shirley A. Dufel, 82, of Crescent Avenue, Amsterdam, N.Y., passed away Saturday morning, March 9, 2013, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y.

Born in Amsterdam on August 21, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Beatrice Miller Welke.

Shirley received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a 1948 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School.

She was last employed as a store clerk for Kmart Department Store in Amsterdam.

Shirley was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam.

Her husband, Robert H. “Pick” Dufel, to whom she was married on September 3, 1950, passed away on February 12, 2009. Shirley is survived by the following: two sons, Larry Dufel (Judith) of Amsterdam and Bryon Dufel and his companion, Angel of Broadalbin, N.Y.; one daughter, Lisa Spagnola and her companion, Rich of Amsterdam; two sisters, Thelma Frisch (Walter) of Amsterdam and Marilyn Hotaling (Robert) of Tribes Hill, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Christopher Dufel (Shelly), Erica Uhlinger, Corey Dufel, Carly Green (Jeff), Elissa and Joshua Spagnola; three great-grandchildren, James Uhlinger III, Madison Uhlinger and Brennan Dufel. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was also predeceased by two brothers, Donald and David Welke.

Shirley loved to knit; she also loved and adored all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.
