Delbert S. Pierce, age 94, of Fonda, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at his daughter Diane and her husband, Jim’s residence in Esperance, with his loving wife and family at his side.
Delbert was born on June 12, 1918, in Randall, a son of the late M. Charles Pierce and Clara Smith Pierce.
Mr. Pierce was a graduate of Fonda High School.
He worked for many years as a dairy farmer in the town of Glen until 1971. Delbert then worked at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital for 15 years and went on to work at the Schoharie Crossing State Park until his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of the former Glen Reformed Church and the current Fonda Reformed Church, the Glen-Mohawk Seniors, F.O.N.D.A., and the Area Men’s Breakfast Club (Glen-Mohawk).
Mr. Pierce is survived by: his wife, Rosemary Widmer Pierce, whom he married on August 26, 1944; two sons, Delbert S. Pierce Jr. and his wife, Rosemarie of Schenectady and Dr. Richard A. Pierce and his wife, Susan of St. Louis, Missouri; three daughters, Diane Walion and her husband, James of Esperance, Elizabeth Pierce Peck and her husband, James of Johnstown and Janet Pierce Eagles and her husband, James of Ellicott City, Maryland; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Delbert was predeceased by his four brothers, Harold, Donald, Warren and C. Burton Pierce; and one sister, Mildred Pierce Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown, with Rev. Karen Patterson officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, April 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
