Victoria H. Solar, age 79, of Johnstown, passed on to the Lord Monday, May 6, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Johnstown on February 24, 1934, a daughter of the late Matthew Suchy and Victoria Vacula Suchy.
Vicki was a Class of 1951 graduate of Johnstown High School. After graduation, she worked briefly for Lee Dye and was later employed for many years as a receptionist at the former St. Anthony’s Church in Johnstown. Most recently she worked part time at Rogers Orchards.
Vicki was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Johnstown and taught the First Communion Class at St. Anthony’s Parish/Holy Trinity for over 25 years. She touched the lives of hundreds of young Catholics, many who still remember her fondly. Vicki was a Blood Mobile volunteer, Eucharistic Minister and Lector at church and maintained the altar linens. Together with her husband, Deacon Dick, she was extremely active in parish life and community service. Together they visited the infirmed, prepared the church for holidays, delivered Meals on Wheels, participated in the Bereavement Committee of Holy Trinity Church, and provided an open ear and non-judgmental heart to those who sought their counsel.
Survivors include her husband, Deacon Richard Solar, whom she married on May 25, 1957; one son, Stephen (Amy) Solar of Johnstown; one daughter, Anne Solar of Johnstown; five grandchildren, Tanisha Grisel, Tristan Grisel, Cassidy Shiel, Nathaniel Solar and Elizabeth Solar; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah J. Grisel, who passed away on September 19, 2010. Vicki’s siblings, Matthew, John, Michael, Helen and William Suchy also predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, at Holy Trinity Church, Glebe Street, Johnstown.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, May 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.
Interment will be in St Anthony’s Cemetery, Johnstown.
