Mr. Durwood G. “Duke” Pearo, 88 years old, of Snooks Corners Road, Amsterdam, N.Y., died Monday at his home with his family at his side.
He was born October 16, 1924, in Perth, a son of Louis and Mildred Phillips Pearo, and was a lifelong area resident. Duke was the owner and operator of Lyn Dee Acres dairy farm. He and his family worked the farm for many years. Duke was a member of the NYS Farm Bureau, the Ayrshire Association and the Holstein Association. He took pride in the many awards he received for showing his animals. In his later years, he enjoyed taking care of his chickens and pigeons.
On October 31, 1943, he married the former Betty J. Tomlinson. She died November 8, 1994.
Duke is survived by his daughters, Donna L. (Ronald) Deay of Amsterdam, Sharon R. Pearo of Fonda, Dawn D. Pearo of Amsterdam, Terri L. Angus and her companion, Joe Key of Duanesburg; his sons, Larry J. Pearo of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dale L. (Eloise) Pearo; his brother, Melvin Pearo of Amsterdam; his sister Marilyn (Skip) Austin of Amsterdam; his brother-in-law, Richard Schultz; a special cousin, Arnold Paro Jr.; his grandchildren, Kristen (Carl) Roan, Holly Deay, Christopher (Brittany) Pearo, Eric Foust, Kelly Terrillion, Brittany and Dylan Angus; and his great-grandson, Benjamin Roan; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Erma Schultz; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Jean Roan.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2013, at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Charles Hesselink officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
