Kathern Cole Leggett

Kathern Cole Leggett, age 92, of Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 5, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Kathern was born in Rockwood, New York on January 16, 1921, the daughter of the late Adelbert G. Cole and Amy M. Young.

She was a Class of 1938 graduate of Johnstown High School and attended the Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse. Kathern met her husband there, Donald J. Leggett and were united in marriage on May 3, 1940. They both worked for the A.G. Cole Funeral Home until the Army called for her husband to serve. Soon after he returned from service, they moved to California and would return to Johnstown to visit. Mrs. Leggett worked for many years as the office manager for Dr. Richard Kratz in Laguna Beach, California. Kathern’s lifelong desire was to return to Johnstown.

Mrs. Leggett was of the Baptist faith. She was member of the Adirondack Baptist Church. Kathern was the Missions Correspondence Secretary of 22 Missionary Families, always mailing birthday cards and anniversary cards to all the family members. In high school, Kathern was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She was a member of the former Kolaneka Grange and a former board member of the Willing Helpers Home. Kathern was also a former member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Center, the Shirley Luck Senior Center, the Monday Ladies Golf League and the Wednesday Senior Golf League.

Kathern is survived by her daughter, Virginia Bayes of Studio City, California; one brother, Alan E. Cole and his wife, Beverlie of Johnstown; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Leggett, Michael Leggett, Michele Hohlbein, Todd Bayes and Scott Bayes; and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Leggett was predeceased by her husband, Donald, who passed away on September 11, 2007; and her son, George Leggett, who passed on June 5, 2011.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Friday, August 9, at 2 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. Pastor Nate Peterson will officiate.

Visitation for family and friends will be prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
