Mrs. Dorothy L. Baldwin, 93, of Gloversville, passed away September 15, 2013, at Mountain Valley Hospice. Dorothy was born September 7, 1920, in the town of Mayfield to the late Charles and Nellie Garrett Hallenbeck. She was the widow of Robert M. Baldwin, who passed away January 4, 2008.
Mrs. Baldwin was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church of Gloversville. She was educated at the former Cranberry Creek School. In the early years of her marriage, she was employed by Robison & Smith Dry Cleaning. For most of her 70 years of marriage, Dorothy was a full-time mother and housewife. She loved spectator sports, especially watching her sons play soccer, baseball, basketball and football. She and Robert could be found almost every summer evening at the Meco Softball Field. Her sports interests included being an avid Yankees fan. Daily rides throughout Fulton County and appreciating the scenery and witnessing changes to the local landscape were other favorite pastimes.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mary Jane Gardner (Bruce) of Gloversville; three sons, Warren Baldwin (Mavis) of Gloversville, Bradley Baldwin (Sandra) of Johnstown and Gregory Baldwin (Mary) of Broadalbin; one sister-in-law, Eileen Deere; three brothers-in-law, Douglas, David and Richard Baldwin; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was predeceased by three sisters and five brothers, Myrtle Lawton, Gertrude Bradt, Laura Snyder, Clarence, Ernest, Robert, Fred and James Hallenbeck, and their respective spouses. She was also predeceased by two nephews and a niece, Larry and Edwin Hallenbeck and Betty Jean Philips.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 19, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will take place 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, or to Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, 99 E. State St., Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the charity of your choice.
