Jane Graves Piusz Roy, 87, passed away Monday, September 23, 2013, at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, New York.
She was born in Hoosick Falls on July 28, 1926, a daughter of the late Charlton and Helen McMahon Graves. Jane graduated from the Springfield Hospital School of Nursing in Massachusetts in 1946, working as an operating nurse until 1962. She graduated from American International College in Springfield, Mass. in 1969 and taught English at nearby Chicopee High School, where she was 1978 Teacher of the Year, retiring in 1988.
Jane lived in Massachusetts (Springfield, Longmeadow, Ware) most of her adult life until moving to Naples, Florida in 1989. In 2010, she became a resident at the Wells Nursing Home.
Jane was a devoted Catholic throughout her life. She loved to read and enjoyed viewing photos of her great-granddaughter.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Piusz, in January 1965; and her second husband, Robert Roy, in 2010.
She will be dearly missed by her loving family including son, Peter (Marilyn) Piusz of Johnstown; stepchildren, Christopher Roy, Kimberly (Lee) Ewing, and Jennifer (Lee) Scott; grandchildren, Stephen (Johanna) Piusz of Albany, Alexander Piusz of Johnstown, Samuel, Nicholas, Megan, and Michael Roy, Jesse Ewing, and Marshall Dalessandro; and her great-granddaughter, Madeleine Piusz.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown, with the Rev. Matthew Wetsel, officiating. A graveside service will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield, Mass. on Friday, October 4, 2013, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane’s memory may be made to Humane Fund of the American Kennel Club (www.akc.org/humane-fund/).
