Vera G. Mastenbrook, age 82, of Corning and Stratford, NY, died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.
Vera was born on May 11, 1933 in Corning to Levi and Frances (Markle) Case. She married Robert Mastenbrook on October 23, 1954 in Hornby and was preceded in death by him on May 9, 2002.
She was employed as a caregiver by Lexington ICF in Gloversville, NY and caring for Mary Hope Giardina. She enjoyed cooking, baking and could beat the men playing horseshoes. She had a lot of fun playing games with her grandchildren, reading and knitting.
She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn (Dennis) Prutsman of Troupsburg, Eva (Carl) Dobson of Painted Post, and Ila (James) McCormick of Painted Post; sons Robert (Wendy) Mastenbrook, Jr. of Painted Post and William (Belinda) Mastenbrook of St. Johnsville, NY; sisters, Barbara Elliott of St. Cloud, FL, Norma Brace of Horseheads, and Janet (Frederick) Osborn of Cadillac, MI; a brother, Clifton Kip (Linda) Case of Big Flats; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; special friends Todd Luckner, Carol Hadcock, Maggie Green, and Mary Hope Giardina; and many nieces and nephews. Vera was predeceased by her son Steven Mastenbrook; grandsons Clifford Dobson and Mark Denmark, sister Ila Saunders; and brothers Charles and Lloyd Case.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd from noon to 3 p.m. at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. with Father Charles Tyo officiating. Burial will be in Central Valley Cemetery in Hornby.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Guthrie Cancer Center, One Guthrie Square, Sayre PA 18840 in Vera’s name.
