Burton Brower Bennett, age 88, a resident of Edinburg, died Friday, January 29, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam following a long illness. He was born in Mayfield, NY on February 11, 1927, the son of the late Bruce and Allie Brower Bennett. He was a United States Army veteran serving from 1945-1946.
He was employed for Jacob Schulman as a CPA in Gloversville, NY. He also worked at the Northville Liquor Store for many years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Northville, a former member of the Mayfield Methodist Church and was a former treasurer of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marylou Groff Bennett of Edinburg; one son, Bruce Alan Bennett and his wife Marion of Boston, MA; two stepsons, Timothy Rockafellow and his wife Linda of Virginia and Mark E. Rockafellow and wife Susan of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Eleanor Bennett, Mark Stephen Rockafellow, Kyle Rockafellow, Ashley Rockafellow and Justin Rockafellow. Two great-grandchildren also survive him.
Friends may call on Thursday, February 4, 2016, from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the Northville United Methodist Church, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be held in the spring in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northville United Methodist Church or the Edinburg Emergency Squad. Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Home.
