Margaret V. “Peg” Pollak, 99, (48 days shy of 100!) passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2016 at River Ridge Living Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 1, 1916 in Roxbury, MA she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Margaret Kelly Smith.
Margaret relocated to Gloversville in 1931 from the Boston area. She was Deputy City Clerk in Gloversville under Mayor Richard Hood and also worked many years as a bookkeeper at Baronet Litho in Johnstown and for L & S Journey House Travel Agency in Gloversville until her retirement. Margaret was a former Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville and a current member of Church of The Holy Spirit where she was a longtime member of the Rosary Society.
Survivors include her son S. Michael Pollak (Kathleen) of N. Springfield, VA; daughter Margaret H. Hartnett (Robert) of Gloversville; grandchildren Timothy Pollak, Molly Insogna (Russell), Meghan Hartnett (Patrick Oare) and Abby Hartnett (Rich DeLia); great-grandchildren Darrien Insogna, Mason Insogna and Lucy Oare. Margaret is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Simeon Pollak; brothers Edward and Charles Smith and sisters Mary Desmond and Eleanor Lynch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 15, 2016 10 A. M. at Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main Street, Gloversville with Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. A Rosary service will be said for Margaret 9:15 A.M. on Monday at church. At Margaret’s request there will be no calling hours. Burial at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville will be held at a time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
