Sherry E. Canfield, 68, of Union Street, Broadalbin, died Tuesday evening, June 14, 2016, at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.
She was born in Amsterdam on November 1, 1947, a daughter of Stuart and Mildred Dingman McGowan and was a 1965 graduate of Broadalbin High School. Sherry was a 1978 graduate of the FMCC Nursing Program. She was a lifelong area resident.
Sherry was a beautician before becoming a registered nurse and was employed at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2003.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Mrs. Canfield was a member of the former Kennyetto Women’s Bowling League and competed on TV Tournament Time. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at family gatherings and holidays.
She was married to William P. Canfield on November 5, 1965. He died September 3, 2015.
Survivors include a son, William S. (Mary) Canfield of Broadalbin; a daughter, Sharine (Anthony) Vertorano of Broadalbin; a sister, Deborah (Wayne) Bovee of Broadalbin; three grandchildren, Anthony Vertorano Jr., Eden Robbins and Dillon Canfield; two step-grandchildren, Nicole Sala and Michelle Horstmyer; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces; and several cousins.
At Sherry’s request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Mountain Valley Hospice, both in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown.
