Margaret “Peg” S. Buchanan, age 83, of Gloversville, NY, passed away October 2, 2016, after a long period of declining health.
She was the beloved wife of James Buchanan; mother to sons, Tom (Joan) of Bedford, NH, Tim of Johnstown and Nancy (Tony) of Munster, IN; grandmother to Charlotte, Rosemary, Anthony and Sarah.
Margaret was born July 13, 1933, to the late Donald and Alice Scofield of Gloversville, NY. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1951 and married James on August 11, 1956. She worked for New York State Tryon Residential Center, for many years, retiring in 1993. Previously, she worked at Gloversville High School, in the nurse’s office.
She was an avid reader and an accomplished card player. She also enjoyed doing complicated jigsaw puzzles and playing board games with her grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her and she cherished the times when everyone could be together. She was a good friend to many, both near and far. Even as her health declined, she was committed to keeping in touch through phone calls and email.
Most of all, Margaret will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her strength of spirit, and her warmth and good-heartedness.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, October 6, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a memorial service will follow at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
