Richard “Max” Maxian Jr. died suddenly on November 3, 2016, at his home in Worland. Prior to moving to Wyoming in November 2015, he was a lifelong resident of Johnstown, New York.
He was born in Amsterdam, New York on July 8, 1953, the son of the late Richard Sr. and Lois (Moynihan) Maxian. Max was married to the love of his life, Karen LaValley, in 1986.
Richard worked for the New York State Police for 28 years, mostly in Troop G in Fonda, then later on the NYS Thruway, retiring in 2005. While a NYS trooper, he worked at Lake Placid during the 1980 Winter Olympics and served for several months in NYC following the 911 disaster.
He enjoyed hunting and shooting and was an active member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club for 20 years. Since moving to Wyoming, he continued to enjoy his hobbies. He immediately became active in Worland’s Gun Club. He continued to give to his new community by becoming a member of the Washakie County Search and Rescue as well as the American Legion Post 44.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Justine (Rance) of Schenectady, NY and Victoria Maxian of Amherst, NY. He is also survived by two sisters, Connie Johnson of Benicia, CA and Carol (Thomas) Pollard of Scotia, NY; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, November 21, at the Holy Trinity Church in Johnstown, NY.
