Thomas William Nevich, 61, of Johnstown, died Friday, December 2, 2016, following a long illness.

Tom was born June 9, 1955, in Amsterdam, NY, the son of William and Virginia Nevich. He attended Amsterdam schools, graduating from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1973 and SUNY Oswego in 1977.

Tom spent most of his working career in the newspaper business, including the former Pulaski Democrat; long-time sports writer and editor at the Amsterdam Recorder; and Sports Editor and Managing Editor at the Gloversville Leader-Herald.  He was also one of the founders and the first president of the Pulaski Historical Society.

Tom was a literacy volunteer and also coached youth soccer. He loved playing chess, music, photography, the NY Jets and his dogs Tucker and Ginger.

Tom is survived by his mother, Virginia, of Johnstown; son, Neil (Melissa) of Katonah; daughter, Megan McClearn (Matt) of Watervliet; sister, Nancy Warner of Pulaski; grandchildren Ava Nevich, and Emeliana and Elijah McClearn; nephews and grandnephews.

He was pre-deceased by his father, William.

Services will be held on Friday December 9, 2016 at 1:30PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Father O. Robert DeMartinis presiding.  Interment is private in St .Casimir’s Cemetery, Amsterdam.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:30PM at the funeral home.
