Charles J. Coons, 59, of Cassville and formerly of Fonda, passed away unexpectedly April 19, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.
He was born July 6, 1957, in Amsterdam, a son of John H. and Bertha (Barker) Coons. Charlie attended Fonda-Fultonville Central Schools, and graduated in the class of 1975. Soon after, he began a 25-year career with Great American Food Stores, where he worked at various store locations as produce manager.
Upon leaving Great American, he worked for a general contractor until 2015. From then until the present, he was employed as a sales associate with Lowe’s in New Hartford.
In 1999, Charlie married the former JoAnn Ross in Milford. JoAnn passed away in August of 2007.
Charlie was proud of his Moto-Ski snowmobile restoration projects. In addition to building and riding his snowmobiles, he was a talented woodworker, and also enjoyed landscaping. He especially looked forward to watching his kids play sports.
Survivors include his fiancee, Kathy Yaworski; a son, Jonathan; and daughter, Lexis; five stepsons, John and Nathan Yaworski, Aaron Mitchell, and Nick and Justin Fisher; two sisters, Debora (Tim) Silvernail of Fonda, and Anna May Coons of Ephratah; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Sherry Friedlander.
Calling hours are Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 365 W. Main Street, in West Winfield.
