Flora A. Mellis, 88, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2017. Flora was born, December 3, 1928, and raised in Gloversville, New York, the daughter of the late Victor and Phyllis Masala.
She spent over 50 years with her husband, Robert Mellis. She worked as a school crossing guard at Cayadutta and Main streets for the Greater Johnstown School District. Flora worked with her husband to run Mellis Market in Johnstown for over 30 years, and devoted her life to taking care of her family. Upon her passing, she was accepted into the Anatomical Gift program at Albany Medical College where she will help to teach medical students how to care for the loved ones of others.
Flora will be missed by her daughter, Carol Mellis; her granddaughters, Dawn (Scott) Mellis-Passero and Alyssa (Joel) Laska-Epps; her great-grandsons, Isaac Passero and Wyatt Epps; her sisters and brothers, Jennie (George) Chiarello, Chris (Kitty) Masala, Nick (Ann) Masala and Dolly (Richard) Handy; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert; her sister, Caroline Russo; and her brothers, Anthony (Angie) Masala and Joe Masala.
A celebration of life will be planned during the summer.
