John Robert ‘Bob’ Barr

Mr. John Robert “Bob” Barr, 94, of Johnstown, passed unexpectedly on April 2, 2017. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 17-plus years and served in many capacities, serving as an elder of the church. He was loved by so many family and friends.

Bob was born on October 28, 1922, in Paterson, N.J., to the late Jack and Janet Barr. He graduated from Patterson High School. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, the late June Barr, who preceded him in death in 2009. Bob was honorably discharged on Nov. 4, 1945, from the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he served as bombardier.

Bob was an active and proud member of St. Patrick’s Lodge 4 and the Cyprus Shrine. He was also a proud Shriner, and was “Bubbles” the clown, a great tradition of The Shriners. Bob also served for many years as Santa Claus for the St. Patrick’s Lodge 4 Christmas party.

He was predeceased not only by his parents and his wife, but also his brother, James Barr; and his beloved daughter, Audrey Barr, who passed untimely in 2014.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Darla Abraham (Howard); sister, Margaret “Peggy” Sheldon; his grandchildren, Audrey Bell and Heather Bell; several nieces and nephews; and his great-grandog, “Rudy,” who brought him much joy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation period from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017, at the chapel of Ehle and Barnett Family Funeral Home LLC, 15 N.
