Christian Joseph Rohr died unexpectedly while hiking in Troy, New York on February 25, 2017, at the age of 25. Christian was born on All Saint’s Day, November 1, 1991, he was baptized on Pentecost, and confirmed in the Christian faith. We are confident that he is in God’s gracious care now.
Christian is survived by his father, Donald F. Rohr Jr. of Rexford, NY; and his mother, the Rev. Laurie M. Garramone of Johnstown, NY; and by his best friend and brother, Alexander Rohr, also of Rexford, NY.
Christian was a 2010 graduate of Niskayuna High School, where he was a member of the school swim team. He also swam with the Schenectady Sharks and the Woodlin Club swim teams. Christian earned his associate’s degree in business from Hudson Valley Community College in 2013 and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from SUNY Albany in 2015.
Christian was employed by The Ayco Company in Latham, NY, and he worked part time for several years at Play It Again Sports, also in Latham, NY.
Christian could always be found outside in all weather conditions. He loved hiking in the Adirondacks, downhill skiing, ice hockey and skateboarding. He was an accomplished graffiti artist, a great wordsmith, and he was enormous fun to be around. He also loved to cook and to spend time with his extended family, especially his aunts, uncles and cousins. No words can express the deep loss they feel.
Because of his interest in outdoor sports and fitness, the family requests that donations can be made in Christian’s name to the Double H Ranch which helps seriously ill children experience the magic of the Adirondacks through camping, skiing, swimming and hiking. Send donations to Double H Ranch, 97 Hidden Valley Road, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846 with his name in the memo line.
Christian also attended Taize worship services at Oaks of Righteousness in Troy, NY where inner-city children are introduced to Christ every day. Donations can be sent to benefit the ministry in his name to the Episcopal Diocese of Albany, 580 Burton Road, Greenwich, NY 12834 with “Oaks of Righteousness/Christian Rohr” in the memo line.
The family would especially like to thank the Troy Fire and Police Departments, the New York State Troopers, Dive Team and Rangers, and the Rensselaer Police Department and Department of Public Safety for all their work during the time of search and recovery.
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, 15 W. High St., Ballston Spa, NY 12020, with a reception to follow at the church. The Very Rev. Derik J. Roy Jr. and the Very Rev. Neal Longe will officiate the ceremony. Calling hours will be Friday, May 12, from 5 to 8 p.m., also at Christ Church. All are welcome to attend.
Christian’s arrangements have been entrusted to Ehle and Barnett LLC, Johnstown, NY.
