Dorothy M. Sweet, 88, of Elmwood Ave. Ext., Gloversville died Thursday May 4, 2017 at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born in the town of Glen on February 9, 1929, a daughter of Adam and Lena O’Brien Kilmartin and she attended local schools.
Dorothy was employed as a glovemaker at Margurite Glove Factory, formerly of Gloversville.
She loved sewing, crocheting and doing crafts. Dorothy also enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, gardening and tending to her vegetables and houseplants. Her greatest delight was hosting holiday get-togethers for her family. She was an excellent cook and loved to provide for her family.
She was married to Edward G. Sweet on July 26, 1958. He died June 20, 2011. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Lena Loux, two sons-in-law, Earl Wager and Mike King, and her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her children, Joseph (Linda) Sweet of Gloversville, Rosemary (Milton — “Bub”) Wager of Meco, David (Rita) Sweet of Chiefland, Fla., Danny (Irene) Sweet of Perth, Wendy Stewart of Northville, Robin (Paul) Jacquay of Salisbury Center, Amy (Ray) McGuire of Sprakers, and Becky (Ron) Jones of MT; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Kings Cemetery, Northampton, with the Rev. Linda Martin, officiating. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 and Black Street) Johnstown.
