Edwin Arthur Bentley, 88, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Baptist Health Care in Scotia.

Born on June 9, 1928, in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late William and Margaret Johnstone Bentley. Edwin was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.

Edwin worked in the grocery business, starting with the Supreme Market in Broadalbin and later working as store manager of Loblaws in Gloversville for twenty five years. He then moved to the Schenectady area where he continued to work various jobs until his retirement in 2005.

While living in Gloversville, Edwin was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and usher. In his free time Edwin bowled in local leagues, he would always lend a hand to help others, was an avid biker and runner, and spent many hours working on the local bike paths.

In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by two siblings, Robert Bentley and Dorothy Sawyer; and a grandson, Christopher Bentley.

Survivors include his six children, Russell (Barbara) Bentley of San Antonio, TX, David Bentley of Gloversville, MeriSue (Nick) Bobrowich of Georgetown, TX, Thomas (Tiffany) Bentley of Scotia, Todd (Shereen) Bentley of Burnsville, MN, and James (Amy) Bentley of Concord, NC; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 10 a.m. until noon at The White Funeral Home, 264 N. Ballston Ave., Scotia followed by a service at noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.
