Leonard A. Wells

Mr. Leonard A. Wells, 92, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully at his home on May 1, 2017. Born August 16, 1924, in Little Falls, the son of the late Charles H. and Lula M. Oathout Wells.

Leonard attended local schools. He was enlisted into the United States Army Air Force in 1943 and served in World War II in CBI. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a past Chief Ranger of the Forester’s Lodge, a member of the Johnstown VFW, and a founding lifetime member of the Day Center Beach Association. In his younger days, Leonard enjoyed boating on the Sacandaga and spending time at the family’s camp at the lake. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

Leonard was united in marriage to Wanda M. (Smith) Wells on October 20, 1946. Together they shared a union of 58 years until her passing January 2, 2005.

His loving family includes daughters, Marni Chaires (Amir) of Schenectady, Judith L. Wells of Milton, FL and Deborah Dietrich (Paul) of Amsterdam. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Wells.

Family and friends are invited to a committal service with military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871 on Monday, May 8, 2017, at 12:30 p.m.
