Daniel R. Manaia, 85, of Vandenburg Point Road, Gloversville died peacefully with his wife, children, and grandchildren at his side on July 6, 2017. Born on May 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Louis and Grace Manaia.
A lifelong area resident, Danny attended Edinburgh and Northville Schools. He enrolled in the United States Air Force at the age of 17 and served proudly for four years. He met and married the love of his life, Dora “Dot” Sweet on July 29, 1954. There were married for yearly 63 years.
Danny worked with his father in New York City in construction for a short time. He also was employed at General Electric before working in area leather mills for numerous years. Following his retirement, he became a park ranger at Northampton Campsites for 18 years.
He enjoyed being with his family, camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time outside doing his yard work. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Danny was predeceased by his son, Daniel E. Manaia; one brother, George Manaia; and two sisters, Euzora Hitchock and Mary Gallup.
Survivors include his wife, Dot; two daughters, Patricia (Robert) Wojcicki and Penny (Paul) Johnston; three grandchildren, Matthew (Tiffany) Wojcicki, Ashley (Chuck) Willson, Holly (Justin) Kirk; and two great grandchildren, Calianne Wojcicki and Graysen Kirk.
Danny’s family wishes to thank the entire staff in the ICU of Nathan Littauer Hospital for their outstanding care and support.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 4 p.m. at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main Street, Broadalbin with the Rev. Dr. R.W. William presiding. A gathering for family and friends will take place prior to the service beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will take place in the Northville Cemetery.
