Mr. Robert J. Johnson, age 60, of Mayfield, died Monday evening, July 3, 2017. Bob unexpectedly died while on his way home from his Northville patrol when he stopped to do what he always did, which was to help others.
He was born October 29, 1956, in Gloversville, the son of William and Delores Hitt Johnson. He was a 1975 graduate of Gloversville High School and a 1986 graduate of the New York State Police Academy.
Bob was employed for 20 years by the Gloversville Police Dept. until his retirement in 2006. He later worked part time for the Fulton Co. Sheriff’s Dept. and at the time of his death worked part time for the Northville Police Dept. and GS4 Security, as well as assisting his wife, Lorna, with Blinds by Elmendorf. He was Past President of the Gloversville PBA.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lorna Allan Johnson, whom he married on May 24, 2014; a son, Christopher Johnson of Newburgh, NY; three daughters, Jennifer Elmendorf (Rick Cheney) of Mayfield, Laura Elmendorf of Gloversville and Sarah Elmendorf of Louisville, KY; his mother, Delores Johnson of Little River, SC; three brothers, Michael and wife Susan Palmer Johnson of Johnstown, Timothy and wife Michelle Johnson of Gloversville and Peter McShane of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Jeanne and husband David Adair of Little River, SC and Elizabeth and husband John Bright of Conway, SC; a grandson, Benjamin Cheney; mother-in-law, Jeanne Allan of Mayfield; brother-in-law, Tod Allan of Mayfield, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father and two brothers, Francis Johnson and William Johnson Jr.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Saturday, July 8, at a location to be announced by Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
A Memorial Service will take place Sunday at a location also to be announced.
Interment of Bob’s cremated remains will follow at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
