Stephen F. Burda, 76, of Hagaman, NY, has gone to his eternal rest on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, with his loving family by his side.
Born on February 25, 1941, in Johnstown, N.Y., he was the son of the late Andrew and Anna Mellis-Burda. Stephen graduated from Johnstown High School, Class of 1959. He went on to become a barber where he devoted 50 years serving the Hagaman community at Reese’s Barbershop. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Marshall, on May 24, 1964. It was a beautiful union that lasted until his passing. Stephen was a former member of the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department, a role he proudly played from 1967 until 1975. He was also a former member of the Hagaman Village Board, where he served for four years.
Stephen had an immense love for boating and being out on the lake cruising with his wife. He enjoyed going camping with his family and liked to bowl. He enjoyed having clam bakes with his family, and every year looked forward to his three-week winter vacation in Florida with his wife. Stephen had a very large personality and was well liked by all who had the fortune of meeting him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie Burda; his children, Steve (Carrie) Burda, Timothy Burda, Kathleen (Dan) Burda-Bryk, Kelly Burda-Morrison, and Jeffrey (Crista) Burda; his grandchildren, Tori, Cody, Casey, A.J., Josh, Jason, Shawn, Kira, Alexis, Joshua, Cory, Cheyenne, Dakota, Josh, and Seanna; his sisters- in-law, Marilyn Civic and Claudia Marshall. Many loving great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive. Stephen was predeceased by his loving parents, Anna and Andrew Burda.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017, at 11:15 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY, with the Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche as celebrant. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 15 Main Street, Fort Johnson, NY. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 9, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Betz, Rossi, & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, N.Y.
