Eldon L. Coultrup, age 90, passed away on August 22, 2017. He was born on December 8, 1926, in Shattuck, Oklahoma and grew up in Blackduck, Minnesota. In 1947, he moved to Brooklyn, NY to work at the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses. There he worked primarily as head operator of the book trimming department. At the end of 1949, Eldon moved to Johnstown, NY, where he married his dear wife, Marion (Carpenter), on December 24, 1949. He and his wife raised three children and he served as an elder for many years in the Johnstown Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Eldon worked at The Leader-Herald newspaper for 25 years, his last position being Comptroller. He then worked with his father-in-law in his fire extinguisher business, Carpenter Recharge Service. Eldon also spent many years volunteering to help build Kingdom Halls in upstate New York and Vermont.
He is known in the community for his friendly smile, his story-telling, and Bible ministry. This very faithful, spiritual man will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of almost 68 years. He will also be missed by his three children and their families, six grandchildren and their families, two great-grandchildren, and the many friends who were blessed to know him.
A memorial service to remember Eldon’s life will be held September 16, 2017, at 4 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 126 S. Kingsboro Avenue, Gloversville, NY. Visiting hours will be at the Kingdom Hall from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
